Open role

Researcher

London · Full-time · Hybrid · 3 positions

Work directly with the Head of Origination to identify businesses with a financing need and start informed conversations with their owners and finance teams. This role combines careful research with practical origination: understanding the business, finding a relevant reason to speak and following through.

What you will do

  • Research businesses, ownership structures and sectors using company filings, accounts and other reliable public sources.
  • Identify financing triggers such as acquisitions, investment plans and approaching debt maturities, and distinguish evidence from assumptions.
  • Prepare concise company briefs explaining the business, its financing position and why a conversation may be relevant.
  • Contact prospective clients by telephone, email and professional networks with clear, relevant outreach, following the firm’s contact and opt-out procedures.
  • Qualify initial interest, arrange conversations with a Managing Director and maintain accurate research, contact and follow-up records.

What we are looking for

  • Curiosity about how companies operate and a genuine interest in business, entrepreneurship and finance. Previous investment banking experience is not essential.
  • Comfort starting conversations with people you have not met, listening carefully and handling a lack of interest professionally.
  • The ability to turn a large amount of information into a short, accurate explanation with sources that someone else can check.
  • Strong organisation and persistence: you keep track of commitments, follow up thoughtfully and know when to move on.
  • A willingness to learn from feedback, question weak assumptions and use research tools without accepting their outputs uncritically.

What we offer

  • Direct work with the Head of Origination and visibility into how a prospect becomes an advisory mandate.
  • The opportunity to build practical knowledge of corporate finance through company research and conversations with business owners.
  • Responsibility for your research and follow-through, with scope to help improve how Solon identifies and approaches prospective clients.
  • A full-time role based in London, with hybrid working.
